Genome data ecosystem
I think that in biology, the ecosystem Ecosystem - Wikipedia means a system of living things (organisms). You can imagine a variety of living things in the forest, jungle, or sea. But I am using the terminology "ecosystem" as another meaning. It is close to the Software Ecosystem Software Ecosystem - Wikipedia. For example, think about the Android phone and the Android apps running on the Android, or iPhone and the iOS apps running on iOS. In this case, Android or iPhone (or iOS) is the platform, and the system of the apps thriving on the platform is called an ecosystem or software ecosystem. So, I have seen people use "Thriving SOMETHING ecosystem is important for the or our platform" in the IT industry. So, this is about platform business.
In software, I think the success case is the Linux kernel and software applications on the Linux kernel. And in hardware, And in hardware, the success case is Framework Laptop Framework - Wikipedia. It has a hardware ecosystem. And now I find a small software ecosystem using genome data. It is 3rd-party genome analysis service projects by uploading your genome data.

I shared I got my genome data from Nebula Genomics in the blog post. There are 3rd-party services to analyze specific things based on the genome data. As I have my genome data, I can get the reports from the service quite easily within 10 or 20 minutes.
Gene Genie
The website link is here. The review by Nebula Genomics was helpful. The cost is free. But the donations are welcome. It's like Wikipedia that they sometimes ask for donations. I felt their will for the genetic test to democratize. You can download the HTML-based report and PDF file.
Gene Genie offers 3 types of tests.
- GenVue Discovery: The report is categorized into Genetic Conditions, Drug Response, Other Risks, Rare Mutations, and Uncommon Mutations.
- Methylation Panel: The panel report + detailed explanation for each gene.
- Detox Panel: The panel report. I couldn't find a detailed explanation.
Promethease
The website link is here. The review by Nebula Genomics was helpful. The cost is 12 USD. It has countless reports and detailed explanations. One interesting report of mine is I have a risk for obesity 2.76x times more than average! I am actually very slim as I care for food very much now. But I need to be intentional and care about the food continuously.
Thoughts
These are the example of the small ecosystem. The challenge is the genome test is meaningful enough with biological tests to understand what's happening in your body now, and with the help of the people who can understand and advise properly. But if we can democratize these factors, the ecosystem can be bigger and thrive more in the future.
My next actions can be finding genome advisors locally or near my living city and trying body monitoring devices. I postponed finding the genome advisors as I tried to understand it by myself. But now it may be the time.
